What's Making that Shadow?

Main Street is really the heart of the town. The department store, the bank, the butcher and the grocer are all found on Main street. But be careful walking down the sidewalks on a sunny day. You don't want to cross the shadow of Mephistopheles' bookstore. The building isn't there anymore. Or at least not that anyone can see. But its shadow is, and if so much as a sleeve crosses that shadow you'll be whisked into a labyrinthine world full of the smell of lignin and the rustling of pages turned by unseen hands.
Some people who were careless enough to get caught in the bookstore's shadow have found their way out in a few hours. For others it takes days. No one comes out without buying something. The theory is that the bookstore knows what book you need and will hold you there until you find it. There's a legend of a woman who has been inside for decades, hopelessly lost in the stacks. They say she used to be an elementry school teacher and went in voluntarily, looking for books for her students, and the bookstore refuses to let her go. They say the book she needs hasn't been written yet. The last time an involuntary shopper spotted her they said she was furiously scribbling, surrounded by a tower of handwritten pages, so who knows? Maybe she'll write her own way out.

This one resonates with me so much! Not only is a neat idea, but there's just something about the book you need not having been written yet. The words absolutely caused my breath to catch for a second.
Not gonna lie I wish I could go there...
