I opened the box in the closet today

That I packed away

The day after you broke my heart

I thought I’d filled it

With moonlit nights and starry eyes,

Gauzy veils and finest wines

But all I found was tawdry ribbons,

cheap chocolate,

and stale crumbs of candy corn.
