Entry 9 by Mikaela Miyamoto
Dear Dreadful Diary,
I made quite the mistake today… after not having heard from Edward for a few days I started to get quite worried. I’ve never had a real suitor before and perhaps I am a bit too reliant on the reassurance my charms provide. I let that nervousness pile up in my body until I just couldn’t stand it anymore! I decided to cast a spell using a small toad as a proxy. Of course, I asked it and the universe for permission before I did anything to it. But I must’ve done something wrong. I followed all the components as mother had taught me. A strand of Edward’s hair, his name scrawled on some paper and both wrapped in a red ribbon. Burn the components then add them to a mixture of honey and cinnamon, then feed to the creature. Hold the proxy tight to your chest and whisper the incantation. Then set it free. If it returns, the spell has worked. I’m not quite sure where it went wrong? The toad hopped out of my arms and made its way to the path from the garden. But as soon as it crossed the threshold to the street, a loud POOF and a cloud of dark smoke appeared! No shape but quite an intense dark color. And left in its stead was just a pile a bones. I tried the spell once more with another toad but the same results. I tried one more time but with a small rodent and thrice was I left with a pile of bones! I did collect the bones to inspect them for any marks or indications as to what I did wrong but nothing. And what’s even stranger, I began to find rogue bones all throughout the house! I had to keep hiding them when Edward was visiting for dinner! They seemed to pop up even more while he was around and would appear on his seat when he got up to use the restroom and in his shoes he’d left at the door. I even managed to grab one from underneath his napkin before he noticed. Very strange. Although they did make for a good base for the stew I made for dinner. Hopefully they begin to appear less and less as time passes. I’m beginning to get tired of finding them. Until next time!
Love,
