Tahiti. The Maldives. Mykonos. And now... the Overlook Hotel? At least that’s what the brochure promises. A wonderful relaxing getaway for you and the family, a luxury resort in which to hang your hat and put away your typewriters. But is it everything it’s advertised to be? I’m here to tell you...

It’s that and more! Architecture geeks rejoice, as the rustic grand entrance gives way to an arts and crafts spectacle that leads you down colonial revival hallways to spacious rooms filled with meticulously curated decor. Its attention to detail is matched only by its cozy atmosphere with large windows, massive fireplaces and some of the plushest carpet I’ve ever seen.

You could practically roll down these stairs. Despite the beautiful natural landscape, this entire place just screams “don’t leave!”

All the work staff here give the hotel a special sense of life. From the groundskeeper with a taste for unique art, to the former caretaker who has a bunch of fun stories-- and some interesting opinions, to the twins who are just so gosh darn welcoming, it’s almost creepy.

The Overlook Hotel has everything one could want out of a comfortable stay: a kitchen with a seemingly endless amount of food, a bar run by the affable bartender Lloyd who already knows your favorite drink, and even a hedge maze that you can get lost in for days. Overall, I would say that this short stay is a big hit.
