Dear Dreadful Diary,

As I’m reaching the midway point of my trip I can’t help but reminisce about back home. Well, this place is home but my other home of course! They both have their positives and their drawbacks but I do feel a bit …. other-homesick. I suppose it’s mostly due to my family. I cannot reach them from here, it is not allowed. And I miss them dearly, mother and sister especially, but of course grandmother as well! Back home it is also a bit difficult to contact them as they’re all a bit disconnected, but at least it is possible! I’m simply forbidden from reaching them in this state and place. My mother was always quite caring and informative. She’s incredibly charming and will make you laugh until you can’t anymore. She studied her hardest on potions and charms and taught my sister and I everything she knew. Of course, there were also many things she didn’t know and would turn to grandmother to ask what was right. My grandmother was a bit more stern and she showed her care in other ways. A bowl of fruits left on the table or a cup of tea brought to my desk. My favorite times were when we’d finish supper and we’d all chat so late into the night that even the crickets had already gone to bed.  My sister and I were also quite fond of each other. Close enough in age that we could relate but not so close that everything felt like a competition. Although there were plenty of things to be jealous about! She is the most clever person you could ever meet. And she understands others to an extent I can’t quite comprehend. Her specialty was charms to help people get what they needed. She could help anyone see what it was they actually needed to help them in life, not just what they believed they wanted. She also made the best stews I’ve ever tasted! No magic necessary. It caused quite a stir when she left the family home for a year to pursue a common world lifestyle. Our family is still quite prominent and so it is pertinent we all continue to practice and help keep the otherworldly side in check. She was only allowed to leave because she explained that in order to continue to help the common folk she must be able to understand them by living amongst them, even if only for a short while. I’ll never be as brave as she was. This trip is the extent of my bravery! I miss them all quite dearly. Enough reminiscing! I only have half of my trip left and they wouldn’t want me to spend it wallowing. Goodnight!

Love,
